Closure

Project Closure Checklist

Most projects don't end — they trail off, leaving loose ends and no lessons captured. A closure checklist gives you a clean finish. Use this free template — or let Planquora run closure with a guided checklist and a captured lessons-learned record.

What it is

Project closure is the formal wrap-up: confirming deliverables are accepted, tying off contracts and budgets, releasing the team, archiving documents, and capturing lessons learned.

Skipping it costs you twice — once in unfinished loose ends, and again when the next project repeats mistakes this one could have taught you. The checklist makes closure a deliberate step, not an afterthought.

When to use it

  • When deliverables are complete and ready for handover.
  • To formally close and get sponsor sign-off.
  • At the end of a phase, for a lighter phase-closure version.

Tips

  • Get an explicit sponsor sign-off. "Done" is a decision someone should actually make.
  • Hold the lessons-learned session while memories are fresh — and store it where the next project will find it.
  • Revoke access and licenses promptly. Orphaned accounts are a security and cost leak.
  • Even cancelled projects deserve closure — capture why, so the decision isn't repeated blindly.
